TMCA RECOGNIZES GREG REID AS 2003 TRANSPORTATION MARKETING EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR
A photo of Gregory Reid is available.

(MINNEAPOLIS)—The Transportation Marketing & Communications Association (TMCA) recently announced at its annual conference that Greg Reid, senior vice president and chief communications officer of Yellow Corp., has been named the “2003 Transportation Marketing Executive of the Year.”

This is the first year TMCA has presented this award to recognize a professional who has demonstrated an understanding of the valuable roles that marketing, sales and communications play in the success and profitability of an organization. With nominations made by members at large, TMCA considered more than 15 potential executive candidates for this recognition. All considered candidates were required to be senior marketing leaders within the North American transportation industry, have demonstrated ongoing excellence in the field of transportation or logistics marketing, and have overall responsibility for managing or executing marketing, sales or programs during the 2002 calendar year.

“Greg Reid embodies the leadership, professionalism and strategic creativity that every marketing executive must have in order to successfully leverage marketing to make things happen for their organizations,” said Brian Everett, TMCA’s executive director. “More and more transportation companies are realizing the value and results that can be generated through strategic marketing professionals such as Mr. Reid.”

Reid is responsible for brand and marketing strategy, and communications for all operating subsidiaries of Yellow Corp. In addition, he maintains responsibility for public, government and community relations. Among his accomplishments in 2002, Reid provided steering committee leadership for ongoing corporate strategy development; led the development of the communications plan for the successful launch of Meridian IQ, the non-asset-based Yellow subsidiary; encouraged further development of Yellow’s biannual Transportation Conference that brings together customers and employees with such outstanding speakers as Rudy Giuliani, Jim Collins and Tom Peters; and elevated the profile of professional drivers within Yellow by promoting the National Truck Driving Championships. Prior to joining Yellow in 1997, Reid held management positions with Procter & Gamble, Bristol-Myers, Shaklee, Memorex, and Ryder Logistics. He holds a BBA degree in marketing from the University of Cincinnati, and also serves on a variety of board, including NCR Transportation, Arizona State University Center for Services Marketing & Management, and the TMCA Advisory Council.

TMCA ELECTS NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND VICE PRESIDENT

(MINNEAPOLIS)—The Transportation Marketing & Communications Association (TMCA) announced that its membership recently elected five new members to its board of directors for two-year terms. In addition, Bruce Winslow, Manager of Public Relations and Advertising for Union Tank Car Company, was elected as the association’s new vice president during 2003-04, to eventually succeed as president during 2004-05. Additional officers for 2003-04 are Ray Venturino, assistant vice president of P&O Nedlloyd, as the association’s president; Denny Grim of Business To Business Communications as treasurer; and Dave Doherty, vice president of marketing for AGAPE Marketing Solutions as secretary.

The TMCA membership ratified the nominated slate in late May via electronic vote. Newly elected members to the board of directors include George Abernathy, senior vice president of NTE; Clayton Boyce, publisher and editor-in-chief of Traffic World magazine; Tonya Maxey, vice president of advertising and promotion for FedEx Freight East, Inc.; Thomas “Woody” Mosgers, marketing and special projects administrator for Chicago’s Regional Transportation Authority; and Tom Nightingale, vice president of corporate marketing for Schneider National, Inc. Existing board members who will be completing their second term are Cyndi Darlington, senior director of sales and marketing for Amtrak; Carol Eidson, national sales director of World Trade magazine; John Ferguson, director of sales and marketing for PBB Global Logistics; Joseph Leppert III, formerly group vice president of Union Pacific Railroad; and Edward Moritz, vice president of marketing for Con-Way Transportation Services.

“We’re pleased to have such a talented and reputable group of individuals on our leadership team,” said Brian Everett, TMCA’s executive director. “This group represents the diversity of our growing membership—people in a variety of roles, including marketing, sales and communications. They also represent the many market segments of our membership, ranging from carriers of all modes to technology companies, third-party logistics providers, port authorities, and passenger transit organizations.” TMCA is the only association to provide services, professional development and networking value exclusively to marketing, sales and communications professionals in all modes and market segments of North American transportation.
